Student Starpack 2007 and Plans for 2008
As part of the ongoing work being undertaken with the design community, the Can Makers sponsored a category in the 2007 Student Starpack Awards. The competition is open to all students at colleges and universities across Europe with the aim of encouraging innovative packaging design.
The Can Makers worked closely with Coors to develop a brief that asked students to come up with a new design for the Carling can. The brief was intended to encourage students to think about how they can reflect the image of 'coldness'. The prize was a £500 travel bursary and one week's work experience in Coors graphic design studio with accommodation provided.
The winner of the Carling Can Redesign category was Ingrida Liepyte from the Lahti Institute of Design in Finland. Commenting on the winning design (see below), Coors said "Visually very strong graphics and the concept works well. The illustration of the design shows the can in true form and great consideration to the placement of the logo".
The Can Makers will be supporting both the Schools and Student Starpack Competitions in 2008.
